Regardless of which room you are cleaning, start by picking up any rubbish and put it in the bin or rubbish bags. Use a dustpan and brush to clean up collections of dirt, and an indoor brush to sweep rubbish into one area so it can be collected using the dustpan and brush.
Lift up or move any furniture, such as beds or sofas to ensure any dirt is cleaned away that is hidden underneath them. Use a brush to sweep it all into a pile and collect with the dustpan and brush. Place in the rubbish bags.
If any items in the room live in another room, take them to that room and put them away.
Any items that belong in the room, put them away in a tidy manner.
Use the duster to clean walls, alcoves and hard to reach places to remove dust and dirt. Make sure you get in every corner and area.
Wipe down worktops, mantlepieces, ornaments, wall hangings, and shelves with warm soapy water and a sponge. Dry immediately with a cloth.
Wipe down skirting boards again with the warm soapy water and sponge. Wipe dry with a cloth.
Use the vacuum to clean any dirt and rubbish on furniture, particularly down sides and in corners where dirt can go unnoticed.
Finally, vacuum the room, moving furniture out of then way if you need to, and reposition items once you are finished.
